B Crux 2011

75cl Bodegas y Vinedos Ortega Fournier Malbec , Tempranillo Argentina > Mendoza > Uco Valley Rich, full-bodied, elegant and complex
B Crux Blend is produced from 12- to 30-year-old vineyards blending 40% Tempranillo, 40% Malbec, 10% Touriga Nacional and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Uco Valley, fermented in stainless steel and transferred to new oak barrels for the malolactic fermentation and one year of aging. The barrels were 80% French oak and 20% American oak. It is quite deep-colored, with very ripe aromas of blackberries, dark plums, some smoky notes and just a hint of spices. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with ripe flavors and good balance, ending slightly warm. Drink 2014-2019. Luis Gutierrez - The Wine Advocate 90pts

Bodegas y Viñedos O. Fournier’s mission is to become one of the most outstanding, high quality wineries in Argentina and seems to be on track with countless appearances in the press, and Decanter magazine heralding the producer as an ‘Icon of Tomorrow’. Founded at the turn of the millennium by the Spanish Fournier family (José Manuel Ortega),the winery lies beneath the snow-capped Andes at an altitude of almost 4000 ft above sea level in the beautiful Uco Valley. At this altitude, there is a significant fluctuation between daytime and night-time temperatures of up to 20º-25ºC. This variance particularly favours the production of wines with an excellent colour and suitable for long ageing in oak barrels. The region´s stoney and sandy soils offer excellent drainage during the summer season. The lack of organic material, limited rainfall and prevailing winds are also conducive to high quality, healthy grapes. Furthermore, the water that irrigates the estates comes pure and clean from the snow thawing on the Andes. The new winery - a phoenix rising out of the stony arid soil - aims to combine the best of old and new technology when completed: above ground, stainless steel, oak vats and gravity feeds; underground, a cellar designed to hold 2,800 oak barrels at a constant temperature and humidity.

"Everything about this Tempranillo-led blend rings true. It's full and flush on the nose, with clean berry and snappy tomato and spice notes. The mouthfeel is wiry and bold, with darts of acidity. Flavors span the red-berry spectrum, while the finish condenses in juicy, classy fashion."
