Corbières-Boutenac 'Atal Sia' 2013

75cl Château Ollieux Romanis Carignan, Syrah,Grenache France > Languedoc Rich, full-bodied, elegant and complex
Atal Sia, meaning ”let it be” in local dialect is produced in a totally hands-off manner. Syrah, Grenache and Carignan grapes are picked at the same time and co-fermented by carbonic maceration. A smaller amount of later-ripening Mourvedre is blended in and the wine ages in tank only. The resultant wine is powerful, aromatic with stunning depth of fruit flavour, silky smooth and long.

Ollieux Romanis is a magnificent property established in 1860. In 1978, current owners, Jacqueline and Francois Bories took over the estate with the intention of producing Corbières wines which best express the Boutenac terroir. 2001 saw the arrival of their son Pierre to the business, who injected new energy into the property, including the introduction of four new cuvees. Pierres’ efforts are gaining recognition, he recently featured in a Decanter article highlighting Corbières rising stars. The estate has almost 70 hectares of vines, including 21 hectares of magnificent Carignan which provide the backbone of their red wines, the youngest of these vines being around 50 years-old and the oldest 109 years old. The wines are a sincere expression of the dry, dusty, garrigue-scented terroir of the region, with appetising ripe fruit and a warm, savoury edge.

“Chocolate, biscuit, blackcurrant and redcurrent notes with raspberry coming through over the dark fruit. Very complex and the finish goes on and on.” 18.5/20 Ernie Whalley – the Sunday Times 03.11.13
