75cl Domaine Matthias et Emile Roblin Sauvignon Blanc France > Loire Rich, elegant and complex
"Russet apple and citrus, rounded on the palate, with perfect fruit/acid balance. Energising and enjoyable." Ernie Whalley. "Red apple leads to lemon on the nose with a chalky mineral-rich palate. Good length too." Martin Moran. Silver medal 17/20 The Sunday Times 02/02/2014

In 2000, Matthias took over the family estate and was soon joined by his brother, Emile, in 2006. They represent the 4th generation of winegrowers at Château de Maimbray.                                                                                                                                                                                     The estate is composed of 17 hectares of vines divided among approximately forty parcels located primarily on the Terres Blanches (white earth) terroirs of the SANCERRE appellation. 85% of the vines are Sauvignon Blanc and 15% are Pinot Noir. They cover the steep slopes surrounding the villages of Maimbray and Sury-en-Vaux, located 6 km northwest of the town of Sancerre.

“The soils in our vineyard are mainly composed of Kimmeridgian and Portlandian (Upper Jurassic) calcareous clay. The subsoil is limestone. Our approach is respectful of the environment and integrates some of the techniques of organic viticulture. We do not use insecticides or fungicides. Most of our parcels have grass growing between the rows of vines to prevent soil erosion and ensure better ripening of the grapes. The soil is worked around each vine to improve microbiological soil life.
Our vines are pruned according to the single Guyot method and later in the growing cycle we perform disbudding and green harvest to an extent that varies each year in order to limit production and obtain healthy and homogenous grapes.

The choice of growing methods used and the harvest date are crucial to ensure that the grapes reach their peak of ripeness. We use gravity (no pumping). The juice, and later on the wine, is handled as little as possible so that it expresses all of the aromatic characteristics our terroirs have to offer.

Our wines are crafted in a traditional manner. We intervene very little during vinification and ageing and produce wines with no artifice.” Matthias et Emile
