Vacqueyras 2014

75cl Domaine la Roubine Grenache, Mourvèdre,Syrah France > Rhone Spicy, robust and punchy
Eric has 5 hectares in Vacqueyras with an average vine-age of 55 years. The vineyards are planted to 70% Grenache and 20% Syrah with smaller amounts of Cinsault and Mourvedre. The wine is fermented in tank and then aged 50% in oak and 50% in steel. The style is big, powerful and smoky with dark and wild fruit flavours.

Eric Ughetto worked for many years in Paris as a fire-fighter, before returning to the Vaucluse to take charge of the family domaine. Following an oenology degree, his first vintage was 2000, having terminated contracts with the local co-op the previous year. The 12 hectares of vines are spread accross four appellations- Sablet, Seguret, Vacqueyras and Gigondas. He explains “the most important thing for me is the search for the best natural balance”. The wines are incredible, true terroir wines with fantastic definition, depth and perfectly ripe fruit, and they just keep getting better and better ! Revue de Vin de France recently claimed that Eric is becoming one of the leading vignerons of the Southern Rhone.
