75cl Domaine de Villeneuve Grenache, Mourvedre,Syrah France > Rhone Something special
“Juicy, bright and vibrant, with plenty of plum, blackberry, ground herbs and violets, it too is medium-bodied, reasonably well-textured and nicely balanced. This biodynamically farmed estate covers just over 20 acres, located exclusively in the lieu-dit of Palestor, which is in the northern part of the appellation. they employ Rhone superstar oenologist Philippe Cambie.” Robert Parker – The Wine Advocate

Until 1993 the Domaine de Villeneuve was owned by Madame Veuve Arnaux.  In 1993 Philippe du Roy de Blicquy, who was working in the advertising industry in Paris, was looking for a domain somewhere in France. When Domaine de Villeneuve was for sale he bought it together with a friend from Paris: the notary Stanislas Wallut.Right from the start they had the ambition to make some of the best wines of the “Châteauneuf du Pape” appellation. This was a hard task because the 8.40 hectares vineyard had been neglected over the past years. The viticulture is biodynamic and the estate is certificated from ECOCERT. Stanislas is very dedicated about this. “Here at Domaine de Villeneuve, we believe that the vines need to have a good immune system to be healthy and to produce good quality grapes. It is the plant’s inner energy that creates a barrier to pests and diseases, not medicines that just act on the short term.” As a consequence, no chemical fertilizers and no pesticides are used in the vineyards. Only small amounts of sulphur and copper-based treatments are used. The vines are from 30 to 100 years old and is 70% Grenache, 16% Mourvèdre, 8% Syrah, 4% Cinsault and 2% Clairette. The yield is normally 24-28 hl./ha. The ageing takes place in tanks and newer barrels (up to 20%) for about 18 months.
