Thalassitis 2007

75cl Gaia Assyrtico Greece > Santorini Something Special
Thalassitis, considered by many to be Greece’s finest dry white and a winner of the International Wine Challenge Greek trophy for many years is a powerful, complex white. It is produced from Assyrtiko grown in a single 60-70 year old vineyard of poor, porous soils formed by volcanic activity. Assyrtiko wines have been described as “Chablis on steroids” due to their full structure and intense minerality, this wine is bone-dry with honeysuckle aromas and powerfully intense mineral flavours and a super-long finish.

Gaia Wines resulted from a partnership between Agronomist Leon Karatsolas and one of Greece’s leading wines figures, Yiannis Paraskevopoulos. The duo began their venture in Santorini in 1994, and following the success of their Santorini white wines, in 1997 they built a second winery in Koutsi, upper Nemea, in what is considered the most coveted zone in the zone for the production of Agiorgitkio. They are both committed to producing quality wines from Greece’s unique indigeneous varietals.
