Fleurie 2013

75cl Domaine des Marrans Gamay France > Beaujolais Juicy, easy drinking
This is textbook Fleurie, bright ruby, with floral aromas backed up by strawberry, blueberry and raspberry, just a hint of vanilla from the oak. Silky and lip smacking acidity.

Mathieu Melinand of the Domaine des Marrans makes wines in four of the ten Beaujolais crus, but his home and his heart are in Fleurie.
As the name implies, the wines of Fleurie are floral and voluptuous. This is perhaps the best-known of the Beaujolais crus, certainly due to its approachability. But this is Mathieu's home turf, and he likes his Fleurie with a bit of minerality and a good dose of finesse.

The family domain is based just outside of the village of Fleurie in the heart of the Beaujolais crus, about 50 km north of Lyon, and today includes 6 appellations on 20 hectares (48 acres). Mathieu joined his parents in 2008 after having finished his oenology studies and having worked at wineries in the southern hemisphere, Australia and New Zealand.

“Fresh but tight nose of cherry fruit. Very appealing palate with fresh cherries and a youthful edge. Everything that good Fleurie should be. 18pts/20 (93/100) Decanter Magazine Sept 2012
