Grande Escolha 2014

75cl Quinta da Raza Alvarinho and Trajadura Portugal > Minho Fruit driven, smooth and dry
Quinta da Raza Vinho Grande Escolha is a blend of Alvarinho and Trajadura grapes. Trajadura is a lightly scented but full bodied white grape grown widely in Vinho Verde and normally blended with other local varieties in many Vinho Verde wines. Occasionally, as here, it is blended with Alvarinho to produce a premium Vinho Verde. This paricuar Alvarinho/Trajadura blend is a very pale green with golden hues, and has a creamy nose with gooseberry aromas, not unlike a Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand. On the palate there is good crisp acidity, with lots of fruit. The finish is long and flavoursome. This would make an ideal partner for shellfish such as mussels, and also for salmon, trout, monkfish or sea bass.

Quinta da Raza is located in Peneireiros, Celorico de Basto, in the Vinho Verde Region (DOC), adjacent to the Douro Region.
They have unusual soils for the region of schist and clay along with a microclimate meaning it receives an obscene amount of sunshine which makes their wines sunny and fresh.

“This is more redolent of southern Burgundy than albarino. Its weight and mouthfeel marks it out as more “serious” than the average vinho verde.” Ernie Whalley - The Sunday Times 08.06.2014

“Attractive red apple and pear fruit flavours with a lovely creamy texture.” Matin Moran 17/20
