V3 Menade 2012

75cl Bodegas Menade Verdejo Spain > Rueda Something Special
V3 – Vinas Viejas Verdejo is from a plot of 140 year old vines which is fermented and aged in French oak barriques for 10 months.

With five generations of winemaking behind them, the Sanz siblings, Ricardo (Oneologist), Marco (Viticulturist) and Alejandra (Salesologist?), whose father is the iconic Antonio Sanz (Palacio de Bornos), started their own project, MENADE in 2005.
The Sanz dynasty in Rueda is legendary and their importance in terms of innovation cannot be underestimated. Each generation, dating back to 1860, has pioneered some technology - from owning the first mechanical press, to producing the first fresh (non-oxidised) wines of the region, to the holistic approach to farming, incorporating organic viticulture.

Pioneers in the organic certification of their winery and vineyard in Rueda they have a thoroughly modern approach to winemaking - concentrating on the native variety, Verdejo, and organic viticulture. The winery is surrounded by the estate vineyards, which total 50 hectares of ecological vines distributed between the localities of O Rueda (90%) and Pollos (10%) of which 30 hectares are pre-phylloxera bush vines approx 140 years old, with the remainder aged between 18 and 30 years old.

"An explosion of minerals, crisp green fruits with a strong herby element. Long and very dry. Great wine"
