La Malkerida - Bobal 2014

75cl Bruno Murciano & DSG Bobal Spain > Utiel Requena Juicy, easy drinking
“They decided to call the wine La Malkerida, which means 'the unloved woman', because they feel that Bobal has been (unfairly) unloved. I loved it. It's sweet and smooth with only the merest hint of game and cough drops but is also really delicate.” Jancis Robinson Try it with red meats, a stew, pork or roast chicken, pork sausages, meat risottos, tapas, cured cheeses and pâtés.

Bruno Murciano, one of the UK’s most well regarded Spanish Sommeliers with more than 12 years of international experience, has finally pursued a life long dream to produce a range of wines made from Bobal in his native homeland of Utiel-Requena. Working alongside winemaker David Sampedro, one of Rioja Alavesa’s 5th generation of vine growers from an extremely talented winemaking family, they’ve combined their joint experience and passion to produce ‘La Malkerida’ and ‘El Sueño de Bruno’.

La Malkerida is a red wine made from 100% Bobal grapes grown using organic and biodynamic practices in the Utiel-Requena D.O.. The grapes were harvested later than the standard in the region, so as to achieve more fruit concentration and right tannin levels. This wine has fermented and macerated in concrete tanks. This wine also rests 6 months in these concrete tanks, plus another 6 months in bottle before being released.

"This is an engaging wine with delicious, plump, ripe, soft red fruits and light tannins. Very fairly-priced too"
