Gruner Veltliner Schenkenbichl Erste Lage 1er ÖWT, 2014

75cl Jurtschitsch Gruner Veltiner Austria > Kamptal Something special
This wine smells as if one were eating oranges in a hay barn not far from the ocean. The salty notes linger on the palate while the fruit varies constantly between various stone and yellow fruits. Crisp and vibrant from the first moment onwards, a firm, subtly tannic texture also contributes to the structure. Drives like a rail train on the palate – concentrated, juicy, and smooth.

The Jurtschitsch family has owned this magnificent winery since 1868.
Today, it is run by Alwyn Jurtschitsch and his partner Stephanie who have taken over from his father and two uncles.
The majority of the 60 hectares of vineyards are based in Langenlois, a naturally protected basin, where high temperatures are common during the day due to extensive sun exposure, while cool air flows in from the bordering, higher situated Waldviertal region in the evening. This temperature variation is the secret to the wonderfully distinctive flavour development noted primarily with Grüner Veltliner and Riesling from this region.
In the 1970’s, the brothers began using compost and green fertilisation to nourish their soils and since 2006, the vineyard management has been converted to controlled organic methods.
