Gioviano Irpinia Aglianico DOC 2011

75cl Il Cancelliere Aglianico Italy > Campania Spicy, robust and punchy
The Gioviano is the most subtle and gentle of the Cancelliere wines. Aged in 3 different vessels, including chestnut barrels, and big slavonian oak botti, this is zero intervention wine making at its best. The aromas of leather and spice are woven discreetly into the heady dried fruit and prune characteristics of the wine. Although maturing nicely Gioviano still displays fantastic freshness and the new 2011 vintage, although powerful, displays elegance and poise. Delicious Aglianico and fantastic value for money.

Situated on the clay slopes of Montemarano, a small village in the Irpinia area of Campania, just east of Naples, lies Il Cancelliere Azienda Vitivinicola di Pizza Rita. The winery is run by Soccorso Romano and his wife Pasqualina and their son Enrico. The Romano family have been growing grapes and making wine here for over 150 years. Il Cancelliere grows only Aglianico and produces approximately 20,000 bottles a year of both Irpinia Aglianico and Taurasi wines.
